Andalman & Flynn Announces Two New Principals, Two New Associates

Elliott Andalman and Mary Ellen Flynn are proud to announce that Kathryn (Kate) McDonough and Peter L. Casciano have become Principals of the Law Firm of Andalman & Flynn, P.C. and that Michelle Amick Prikhodko and Sara Prose have joined the Firm as Associates.

Kate McDonough, an excellent lawyer in family law, civil litigation, and probate has risen through Andalman & Flynn’s ranks, after not only being named one of Maryland’s “Leading Women” in 2011, but also one of Maryland’s “Rising Stars” in 2012.

Peter Casciano, another attorney who has been recognized as one of Maryland’s “Rising Stars” in 2012, and who developed his areas of practice here at Andalman & Flynn, is a skilled lawyer in disability benefits law, criminal and traffic defense, and civil litigation, . Michelle Amick Prikhodko was a law clerk when she joined the firm back in 2008, and as an Associate she represents clients in relation to Federal and State Disability Retirement, as well as Short Term, Long Term, and Social Security Disability issues.

Sara Prose was hired as an Associate Attorney to represent many of Andalman & Flynn’s family law clients in the areas of separation, divorce, child custody, parental/spousal support, adoptions and domestic violence.

Andalman & Flynn scores another victory in the annual Super Lawyer awards, continuing a tradition dating back to 2008, when partners Elliott Andalman and Mary Ellen Flynn took home honors. This year, along with Ms. Flynn being named a “Super Lawyer” in both Maryland and Washington, D. C., for the fifth year in a row, Andalman & Flynn also had two attorneys designated as “Rising Stars.”

Peter Casciano and Kathryn McDonough were both named a “Rising Star” in Maryland, an honor bestowed to, at the most, only 2.5% of attorneys in the state. Peer recognition and excellent work service are the key contributing factors to recognition of this degree.

Attorney Kate McDonough recognized as a 2011 Leading Women

The law firm of Andalman & Flynn is proud to announce that attorney Kate McDonough has been recognized by Maryland’s Daily Record as one of the 2011 Leading Women. The Leading Women award identifies women age 40 or younger who have made remarkable accomplishments in their careers and community involvement. Kate and the other Leading Women will be honored at a reception to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore on December 1, 2011.

Andalman & Flynn Has Moved to a New Location

Andalman & Flynn has moved to a new location. The expanded office will offer our clients a better experience with new conference rooms, increased amenities and more. We’ll still be the same attorneys we’ve always been, in the same convenient location in Silver Spring’s Lee Building, but we moved a few floors away to a larger space in Suite 206. Attorney Kate McDonough Honored for Pro Bono Work

For the third year in a row, Attorney Kate McDonough is being honored by Montgomery County and the Community Action Partnership for her pro bono work. The reception on May 24th at the Vis Arts Center in Rockville will celebrate many local volunteers, including Kate and other volunteer attorneys who donate their time and talents at the Montgomery County pro bono evening legal clinics. In 2010, Kate performed more than 100 hours of pro bono service. Congratulations to Kate and the other honorees!

Elliott Andalman Supports SSA’s Efforts Make Website More Accessible to Spanish Speakers

Elliott Andalman supports SSA’s efforts to make website more accessible to native Spanish speakers. Elliott was NOSSCR’s representative to an SSA meeting on March 10, 2011. During the March 10, 2011 meeting the Social Security Administration unveiled its plans to make www.ssa.gov more user-friendly and accessible to native Spanish speakers, including having application forms and instructions on the web in Spanish to be completed in Spanish. While Andalman & Flynn fully supports these efforts, we do so with one caveat: that the electronic/master file is kept in English so that representatives and social security personnel who may only speak English can read the file without the necessity of a translator

Andalman & Flynn Raise Almost $1,000 for Charity

Andalman & Flynn raised almost $1,000 for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association during the Cycle for Great Causes event on Saturday, February 12, 2011. “Team A&F,” comprised of several of our attorneys and paralegals, participated in five spinning classes, lasting 45 minutes each to support these very worthy causes. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff, friends, family, clients and others who helped us to raise a total of $980.00.

Peter Casciano Serves as an Oral Argument Judge

Peter Casciano was honored to serve as an Oral Argument Judge for the 2011 Sutherland Cup Competition held by Catholic University’s Moot Court Association on March 18-19.

Catholic University’s Moot Court Association is composed of law students who share strong interests in oral and written advocacy training by using mock cases to provide instruction in the art of appellate advocacy.

The Sutherland Cup Competition is the oldest National moot court competition in the United States. It is an appellate advocacy competition focusing on constitutional law. Teams must submit a brief and deliver oral arguments before a panel of practicing attorneys.

The Columbus School of Law, Peter’s alma mater, has expressed its appreciation for his participation in making the competition a success.

Elliott Andalman Appointed to Represent NOSSCR

Elliott Andalman was appointed to represent NOSSCR, the National Organization of Social Security Claimant Representatives, at a meeting on Thursday, March 10, 2011, called by the Social Security Administration’s Office of External Affairs to explore improvement of the online application process for disability, retirement and medicare benefits, including the possibility of developing Spanish versions of the applications. It was chaired by Aviva Sufian, Associate Commissioner for External Affairs, and included approximately 15 organizations. The Administration obtained input from the organizations present and will be moving forward with this project.
